After the ski season ends in early April, several businesses in downtown Crested Butte adjust their hours. It's a good idea to check their websites before visiting to confirm if they're open. While some businesses in Gunnison may also have reduced hours, downtown Gunnison remains active throughout the spring.

Early spring blooms begin in late May and can be spotted on sunny trails near town. The Lupin Trail, Brush Creek, and CB South trails are great places to catch early signs of Crested Butte’s famous wildflower season. Bring a field guide and take it slow!
May is a great time to ease into paddleboarding season. Blue Mesa in Gunnison thaws first, but by late May, you can explore high-altitude gems like Emerald Lake or Slate River. Rentals and guided tours typically resume by the end of the month.
